形態特徵

• Culms slightly zigzag, dark green, 10-20 m tall, 5-15 cm in diam., internodes 20-40 cm long; nodes prominent; walls 0.5-1.5 cm thick; branches numerous at each node.
• Sheath of culm deciduous, coriaceous, with dense dark brown hairs outside; auricles of sheath very conspicuous, ear shaped, with a few brown bristles; sheath auricle narrow, 1-3 mm high; blade of sheath narrowly triangular, glabrous outside, hairy within at base. Leaves 5-11, linear-lanceolate, 10-30 cm long, 1.8-3 cm broad, veins 6-9, veinlets 7-9, subtessellate; petioles short, 2-4 long, auricles of leaf very conspicuous; ligule of leaf truncate; sheath of leaf 6-10 cm long, minutely pubescent outside.
• Spikelet in clusters of 3 to 10 or more at nodes of leafless branches, 15-20 mm long, 3-4 mm in diam., 5-10-flowered; glumes 1 or 2, ovate, hairy along upper margins; lemma similar to glume but larger; palea as long as or a little longer than glume, 2-keeled, densely hairy on keel ovary narrowly oblong, hairy; style ca. 5 mm long, divided near top into 3 feathery stigmas; stamens 6, anthers 6 mm long, purple; loaicules 3, unequal, ovate-oblong, acute, hairy along margins.

分布

• 台灣 : Introduced to Taiwan; planted in Taipei, Taichung, Nantou, Chiayi and Kaohsiung, rare.
• 世界 : Probably native of Africa.
